The continual ministry of God's Word through preaching, teaching, and counseling is of primary importance at Mountain Home Independent Baptist Church. Our commitment to this vital task of the local church is reflective of the Apostle Paul's same commitment. His words in Colossians 1:28 reveal his pursuit to preach, teach, and counsel: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.  Like Paul, we choose to proclaim Christ, warning our members and teaching our members in all wisdom, so that we to may present each of them complete or mature in Him.

At present, our ministry of God's Word in the Lord's Day services (11:00 AM and 6:00 PM) is concentrated on the eight miracles of Jesus Christ that the Apostle John records in his Gospel. We are discovering these to be Miracles That Demand Our Attention.

Near the close of his Gospel, John informs you that Jesus performed many other miracles that he did not include in his Gospel: And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book (John 20:30). In verse thirty-one, John also informs you of his reason for recording the particular eight miracles he did include: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus in the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.

John was both an apologist and an evangelist. As an apologist, he defended Jesus' deity. The Apostle John wrote this Gospel to convince those of you who read it that Jesus' true identity was the incarnate God. As an evangelist, he declared Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. The Apostle John wrote this Gospel to persuade those of you who read it that eternal life is through Jesus Christ. He then organized the entire content of his Gospel around eight miracles. Each miracle served as a sign of Jesus' true identity as Christ, the Son of God, as well as a sign of Jesus' power to save men from sins.

After answering the question, What is a Miracle? on April 11 and 18, we have examined the first miracle Jesus performed of turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee on April 25 and May 2. On May 23 we will begin our examination of the second miracle Jesus performed, healing the nobleman's son, which is recorded in John 4:43-54. It is our intention to examine the remaining six miracles in the Gospel of John throughout the summer months.
